The concept of a science fiction novel to be called Dark Moon Rising took shape back in the early 90's when I was running a role playing campaign based on the Space Master game series. In this campaign my friend Kevin created the self assured, larger than life character of Dmitri Savant, pilot and bladesman extraordinaire. Kevin's artful and flamboyant rendering of Dmitri immediately endeared me to the character, ensuring his survival in my memory long after the role playing was over. Not long after I found myself pondering the character of Dmitri on an almost daily basis. I had toyed with the idea of writing a full length sci-fi novel for years and now I had a developed protagonist, a story line in mind and a computer. I set out to write the great American sci-fi novel. Things went well at first. I signed up for a novel writing class through Writer's Digest magazine which proved to be most beneficial. I was assigned two different mentors during this class. David Feintuch author of the Seafort series and John DeChancie author of the Castle Perilous series. In addition to reading every book I could get my hands on by each of these talented authors I received valuable feedback from each of them. My good fortune was not to continue... Not long after compiling over 2/3 of the manuscript I experienced a hard drive failure and lost most of my work. And no, I did not have a current backup. Next, life took over and the project went on the back burner. Meanwhile, Dmitri Savant remained alive and well in the back of my mind. Last year I decided it was time to dust off Dark Moon Rising and put to paper what my mind had been working on since the early 90's. So my friend, enjoy the materials on this site.
